HELLO AND WELCOME

Welcome to the Cosmic Egg Productions website. I am Steve Hogg and the person behind Cosmic Egg. I have 20 years experience in creative digital media.

I started out as a web developer for Solent University before going on to become Web and Learning Systems Development Manager then the Head of Learning Technologies. In the job I was responsible for a team of around 15 talented people that included web designers, videographers and e-learning specialists. All through that period I was a lecturer in media production. I became an Associate Professor and for three years ran the Solent Creatives student talent agency. I also taught students about freelancing and starting their own creative enterprise.

My skill set includes, online learning development, filming and video editing as well as photography and website creation. Please have a look at the media production services section to see the areas I cover.

More recently I have been working as an online learning developer and designer. I worked for Cambridge Education Group on a year long contract developing courses on the Moodle and Canvas platforms. At the moment I am working for the British Red Cross as a Digital Learning Designer. It feels good to work for an organisation that does good in the world. My skill set has expanded recently to include the Articulate 360 authoring tools; Rise and Storyline. At the moment I am in the middle of UX design project to refresh and improve the user experience on the Red Cross learner platform.

I am a lifelong drummer having started on the drums at the age of nine. I have always loved music and bands and that is perhaps why a lot of my creative work centres around the music industry. Over the years I have directed and produced music videos for bands and artists from the Southampton and Hampshire area. Several of the videos were broadcast on music channels here in the UK as well as in Europe, the U.S, Canada and Japan. The music videos have amassed over 1 million YouTube plays.

A couple of years back I co-produced and edited a short film called War Stories. The film debuted at Southampton Film Week. That followed on from working as co-producer in a web film series called Across The Dark Water. That project was in partnership with The Berry Theatre.

Photography is another passion of mine and I like nothing better than getting in to the camera pit at a live music show. I have been fortunate to have worked as a photographer at some great events including the Monaco Yacht Show. I also did some photography for my local football club Southampton FC.

When I am not out filming or taking photographs I am working at home in my studio that I built in my garden. The studio is fully sound proofed and is the home for my drum kit as well as the place where I work on any editing and web design. I record in ProTools and have a recording set up for the drum kit in addition to the facility to record vocals, keyboards and guitars. I offer recording services at a lower cost than commercial studios.
